zkNews Is Now Open to Everyone

A while back we announced zkNews, a zero-knowledge link aggregator for the community. At the time we launched in beta, with access limited to a smaller group of users while we made sure everything held up.

Today we're happy to share that the gates are open: zkNews is no longer rate-limited, and anyone can sign up.

zknews

What changed?

When we first launched, sign-ups were capped so we could keep an eye on stability and quality while the platform was young. We've since had time to iron things out, and we're confident zkNews is ready for a bigger crowd.

That means you no longer need an invite or a spot on a waitlist. Head over to news.zksecurity.xyz, create an account, and you're in.

What can you do now?

  • Submit links: Found a great paper, talk, or project? Share it with the community.
  • Discuss: Jump into the comments on trending posts and add your perspective.
  • Vote: Help surface the best content by upvoting what you find valuable.

Same mission

Nothing has changed about what zkNews is for. It's still your one-stop shop for the latest news, research, and projects in the zero-knowledge space. The only difference is that the door is now open to everyone.

Come join us at news.zksecurity.xyz, and follow us on twitter for updates and announcements.

Nine Years to Halve a Hash Function: RFC 9861 Is Out

After nearly a decade in the making, RFC 9861: KangarooTwelve and TurboSHAKE was officially published in October 2025, with zkSecurity among its editors. This post explains why these hash functions deserve to be far more widely used than they are today. Built on the same Keccak permutation as SHA-3 and SHAKE but with the round count halved, they do the same job at the same security level roughly twice as fast. We cover why halving the rounds is safe, what the RFC actually defines, the caveats around FIPS compliance and workload-dependent speedups, and why a standard like this took nine years to land.

Unveiling the Magic Behind Starknet: A Deep Dive into New Specifications

In our deep dive into Starknet's cryptographic components, we tackled the challenge of missing comprehensive specifications by reverse-engineering and publishing draft specs. Readers can explore our work on key protocols like Starknet Channels and STARK Verifier, with an open invitation to join us in refining these efforts. Curious to see what we've pieced together? Check out our drafts and get involved!

WE-KZG: Encrypt to KZG.

Ever wondered if you could create a ciphertext that's only decrypted when a polynomial inside a commitment has a particular value? We’ve explored this notion using KZG commitments in our latest Asiacrypt 2024 paper. Dive into the elegant world of Witness Encryption and see how it can be applied in cool ways like Laconic Oblivious Transfer. This approach keeps things as efficient as regular KZG operations and might just spark some creative applications of your own! Curious to learn more? Let’s explore together!
